'"' Page 2
VETS Work Plan
Project No. 750.2
February 12,2004
On June 12, 2000, GTI and Del-Tcch Geo Technical performed a vapor extraction pilot test
at the site. Laboratory and field test results indicate the site is conducive to remediation by
a val'ar extraction.
On June 12. 2000, Ms. Lori Duncan of SJC PHS/hHD requested in writing that a work plan
be prepared to define the lateral and vertical extent of the groundwater plume at the site. On
June 29, 2000, GTI prepared a work plan proposing the installation of two water table
monitoring wells and one deep, discretely screened monitoring well. Ms Duncan approved
the work plan on July 7, 2000. The work was performed during the week of October 16,
2000.
On January 30, 2001, GTI prepared and submitted the Corr•ecti►e Action Plast (Revised)
t'ado.ve Zone Remediation. The CAP discusses GTI's proposed methodology for mitigation
of the documented petroleum hydrocarbon contamination at the site by vapor extraction.
The CAP also discusses the confirmation testing outlined in this work plan. The CAP, as
submitted, was approved by Ms Duncan in a letter dated April 02, 2001
In February 2002 the soil vapor extraction system was initiated and has operated for the past
year. Contaminant mass estimate calculations show that approximately 50% of the
petroleum hydrocarbons contained in the subsurface at this site has been removed. The
groundwater at this site is free of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination and possibly as
much as 600 gallons of gasoline may remain in the vadose zone.
On March 28, 2003, GTI submitted a work plan for additional site characterization. The
work plan was approved, with reservation, by Lori Duncan in a letter dated April 8, 2003.
On September 5, 2003, GTI and Gregg Drilling installed, logged and sampled two soil
borings. The soil borings revealed that the bulk of the contamination has been removcd
from the site. Details are discussed in the Interim Soil Investigation Report dated October 2.
2003.
On December 9, 2003, a source test was conducted on the internal combustion engine (VC),
San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District (SJCUAPCD) Authority to
Construct (N-4546-2-0). The I/C failed to comply with the VOC limits established by the
SJCUAPCD. On January 14, 2004, the I/C was shut down.
This work plan discusses modifying the vapor extraction treatment system (VETS). GTI.
proposes to pull vapors from the vadose zone with a blower and treating the vapors with
Granular Activated Carbon (GAC).
