Geological Technics Inc. Page 3
VETS Work Ptan
Project No. 750.2
February 12,2004
2.0 PROPOSED MODIFICATION
2.1 Internal Combustion Engine Removal
GTI propo es to remove the internal combustion engine, the liquid propane tank and the
fence around the liquid propane tank (Figure 2). The existing manifold, piping, vapor
extraction wells and knock out drum will be utilized by the modified VETS. This will take
very little tirne as the equipment is designed to be mobile.
2.2 Granular Activate Carbon Unit Installation
GTI proposes to install a vapor extraction system using a TuthillCc) blower, capable or
producing 200 cfnn, and powered by a 7.5 hp farm duty motor. This systern will produce
greater airflow of the IlC thus reducing the time needed to remove the petroleum
hydrocarbon contaminants.
Electrical power will be brought to the enclosure from the existing power supply at the
sight. It is anticipated that a temporary power pole and meter will be needed in the
enclosure. If possible, the existing meter will be used to reduce costs.
Vapors pulled from the vadose zone will go through a knockout drum to remove water from
the air stream prior to entering the lead vessel. The vapors will pass through two 1000-
pound carbon units, supplied by U.S. Filter, and the clean emissions will exhaust out of the
lag vessel in the effluent stream.
2.3 Interim Site Work
An authority to construct permit will be obtained by GTI. Influent and effluent vapor
samples will be collected and analyzed for TPH-G, BTEX and MtBE monthly. Emission
reports will be submitted monthly to the SJCUAPCD.
Groundwater-monitoring will continue on a quarterly routine and supporting technical
reports will be submitted 45 days after the end of each quarter. The quarterly monitoring
reports will discuss the progress of the VETS.
3.0 SCHEDULE & REPORTING
It is anticipated that the beginning date for the fieldwork will be within 45 days, following
work plan approval. A VETS installation report will follow the completion of tate work.
Dr. Ray Kablanow, a Registered Geologist and Certified 1`lydrogeologist, will supervise the
project. Copies of the report will be forwarded to the appropriate County and State
regulatory agencies (S.ICEI-ID and CRWQCB-CVR).
