Box 248
Escalon, California 95320
RE: Vapor Extraction System Update
City of Escalon(Former Arco Mini Mart), 1305 Escalon,Ave.,Escalon,CA
Dear Stidham:
This letter is to update you on the operation of the vapor extraction system at the Former Arco
Mini Mart, 1305 Escalon Ave. in Escalon CA. As I explained in my May 30, 2002 letter, the
internal combustion engine (IC) was removed from the site on May 29, 2002 due to engine
failure. The IC was dismantled the following week and it was determined that an exhaust valve
broke and fell into the cylinder. The broken valve piece then caused the piston to jam, breaking
it.
The IC was rebuilt and returned to the site on June 14, 2002. Field sampling, conducted on the
14d' and again on the 17d', indicate that the IC is operating properly. Laboratory samples will be
collected this week.
If you have any questions regarding this project, please call Ray Kablanow or myself at the
office(209) 522-4119.
Respectfully ubmitted,
r
e
CTE0UW#IG4L TFGiINICS INC
Michael J.Niemi
Project Geologist
Cc: Lori Duncan—SJC PHS/EHD
Heather Kuklo-SJVUAPCD
Gordon Boggs—RWQCB-CVR
