Zoning Map of Project and vicinity.
In response to comments from the public and regulatory agencies, in 2019,
Or. Hussein, reduced the size of the farm by 50% to a maximum of 1,500
chickens and added more stringent manure management measures.
The Project came before the Commission on August 20, 2020. At that
hearing, all Commissioners present expressed support for a successful project of
this nature, but Commissioners Morri and Chair Hamilton stated concerns that
the Project, at full build, out (1,500 chickens), was too large in scope. The
Commission unanimously continued the hearing to allow Mr. Hussein to work
with staff to further modify and/or condition the Project to address these
concerns.
The Modified Project
Following the Commission's decision to continue the August 2020 hearing, Mr.
Hussein and his engineers (Schack & Co.) worked with staff to bring forth this
modified Project. The Project now includes the following characteristics:
• Total number of chickens at final buildout will be limited to 1,000 (a further
33% reduction in size).
• Chickens will be housed within two connected 20'x 40' barn "chicken
coupes" located within a 19,000 sq. ft. fenced enclosure (pen). Chickens
are not caged and are permitted to travel in and out of the building and
within the pen. The coupes will comfortably house 1,000 chickens.
{00177524.}
