The borings were four inches in diameter, c„
3.25, 3.30, 7.25, and 7.50 feet deep, and were excavated by hand auger. The locations
of the borings, near the septic disposal areas of each duplex, are indicated on Plate 9. (
The soil in the borings was within the range of what would be anticipated based on the
.. Soil Survey data reviewed. At both percolation test locations, sandy clay was
elfl:x nterred to a depth of three feet, followed by clayey sand to a depth of six feet. 5 '>
Silty, fine sous encountered for the remainder of each boring. The log for the soil
rin - ented in Plate 10.
Discussion of Soil Lithology
Based on the soil observed in the borings, there appears to be moderate potential for
percolation of the surface soils, and moderate to good potential for percolation of the
deep soils. Sandy soils generally have a much greater potential for percolation than
fine-grained or cemented soils. However, a percolation test is the only accepted
method for determining the suitability of the soils for a septic disposal area. Percolation
test results are discussed in the following section.
Percolation Test
Two shallow and two deep percolation tests were conducted on the Site; the soil c.2
borings discussed above were used for the percolation test holes (Plate 9). Percolation
test procedures conformed to San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
policy.
" LOGE 1515 Page 5
