Pleased be advised that should this mitigation measure fail to provide
adequate protection of groundwater, the installation of a supplemental treatment system
to reduce the nitrate concentrations in the wastewater will be required. These types of
systems are costly and require ongoing operation and maintenance by a qualified
professional.
The grab water sample, obtained at the water table area at about 8.5 feet below ground
surface, showed 11.1-mg/L nitrogen as nitrate. Please be advised that domestic wells
located in the vicinity and screened deeper in the aquifer have shown higher levels of
nitrate. To provide a better indication of the nitrate level in the on-site domestic well,
please test this well for nitrate within 30 days after the installation of the pump. A
cement pedestal must also be installed around the well casing. A pump permit for this
work is required. The well testing results must be submitted to the EHD prior to final
j occupancy.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact Linda Turkatte, Lead
Senior REHS, at (209) 468-3441.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
w
Mike Huggins, Supervising REHS, RDI
Land Use, Water Wells, Liquid Waste Programs
C: David Welch
Neil O.
