LODI,'CALIFORNIA
OUR TOB NUMBER:'LG00-287 ;
I.^ INTRODUCTION
Our office was contracted by,W. Mike Smith-of Mike.Smith Engineering,,Lodi, CA to
conduct a soil suitability/nitrate loading study for the proposed boutique'winery located at 13731
Higliway'88;Lodi, CA-(Plate 1). Nlike Smith Engineering is performing the civil.engineering
:for the-project.
The soil suitability/nitrate loading study was conducted to determine if the`soils are
suitable for the.use of a septic system.and to estimate'whether the proposed project will impact-
ground-water quality. The study was performed according to the requirements of Section 9-
410.5.2(d)
1105.2(d)'of the San Joaquin County Development.,'Major elements of the field work included
drilling several borings_and conducting percolation tests in-the-more favorable conditions. These -
tests'are required by San:Joaquin County,Public Health Services Environmental Health Division
(SJC PHS-EHD) for project approval.
n addition to conducting the fieldwork; are view of published soil information, geologic
k maps, and available ground water information was reviewed to determine the suitability of soils.
Due to San'Joaquin County Public Health Services;,SJC PHS-EHD's concern of nitrate
n contamination of shallow ground water in the area,;a nitrate loading balance was a requirement
for project approval. The nitrate loading study Was-conducted to estimate the potential impact of .
leachin nitrates from the septic syst
study. em'into'groundwater. ,This.report presents the results'of our
g
