Photographs of the Site are attached to
this report as Appendix 2.
The eastern side of the Site, located at a higher elevation, is planted with vineyard. The
western side of the Site, at a lower elevation, is a cherry orchard. The western property
line is defined by the Mokelumne River. An agricultural pump was observed near the
center of the Site. A second pump was located by the river on the northwest side of the
Site. High-voltage power lines cross the Site.
Surrounding properties are walnut and cherry orchards and open agricultural land. The
two parcels embedded within the Site are rural residences.
5.0 INTERVIEWS
5.1 Interview with Property Owners
Tom Holmes was interviewed by telephone on May 7 and June 1, 2012. He indicated
that he, his sister, and Don Reynolds of M&R Packing own the Site, he inherited it from
his grandmother in 1981. He and Mr. Reynolds planted the existing cherry orchard,
prior to that, the western side of the Site was used for growing row crops, including
asparagus and beans. The vineyard on the east side of the Site was planted around
1960. Mr. Holmes indicated that Mr. Reynolds farms the Site and brings all the
equipment in; no chemicals or equipment are stored on the Site. When asked about the
former structure near the center of the southern property line, he indicated that he
believes it is located on the neighbor's property (parcel embedded within the Site owned
by O'Keefe). It was a building used for washing and cleaning asparagus; a line ran from
the house to the north to supply water to the building, he stated. Mr. Holmes was not
aware of any fuel tanks, automotive maintenance activities, or other environmental
hazards on the Site.
LOGE 1208 Page 3
