KLEINFELDER
Please see the attached site plan for the existing site layout. We understand that this study is
being required by the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) as part
of a Revised Conditions of Approval for the subject site.
2. PRESENT AND PAST USE
L
Based on information provided to us by Mr. Trickey, we understand that the site had been used
by California Nuggets for the manufacture of "Roasted Toasted Gourmet Com" for 4 years.
. Prior to California Nuggets, the property was an almond processing and packing facility.
California Nuggets has seven full-time employees and between 10 and 23 part-time employees,
depending on sales volume and the season.
3. SEPTIC PERMITS AND PERFORMANCE
L
On June 18, 2003, an employee of the SJCEHD pulled the permits on file for the subject
property and those parcels adjacent to the subject property. Five septic permits were on file for
6. the subject property and the adjacent parcels. Four of the permits were for new septic system
installations, with the other for a repair/addition. Please see the attached table for a summary of
permit information and a description of the septic systems.
According to the Mr. Trickey, the two permitted septic systems on the subject property are
functioning well, and to the best of his knowledge, none of the adjacent properties require
L.. additional septic system work to be performed at this time. These two systems are covered by
lawn area or gravel. The unpermitted septic system is reportedly not used at this time. An
inspection of this system was performed by SJCEHD personnel on August 21 or 22, 2003.
.. According to SJCEHD, this system is composed of a single-compartment tank and a single leach
line that is approximately 1/3 full of sediment. The septic system is covered with asphalt
concrete. According to SJCEHD, this system is inadequate for use and must be replaced with a
new system that meets SJCEHD standards if it is desired to be utilized in the future. The
permitted systems are used for the disposal of septic waste from the existing residence and
business. Based on the repair permit on file with SJCEHD, it appears that only one shallow
leach field system in the immediate vicinity of the subject property has had additional leach lines
added.
L 4. GROUNDWATER
6. During the time of our investigation, groundwater was encountered at a depth of approximately
13 feet. Lines of Equal Depth to Groundwater contour maps published in groundwater reports
by the San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District show groundwater
t. levels in the project area ranging from about 15 to 20 feet below ground surface from Spring
1981 to Spring 1999. Based on Equal Elevation of Groundwater maps, the general groundwater
L
gradient is from east to west. Local gradient variations may be present due to well usage.
L31917.GOI/ST03RI695 November 11,2003
©2003 Kleinfelder,Inc. Page 2 of 7
L
