U
April 19, 2007
Rick Griffin
Page 2
Service's request is approved, it will threaten the groundwater which is already fragile in
this area.
2. The residences near the proposed site rely on wells from a sole source
aquifer for their water supply. This water supply is already vulnerable to natural
occurring nitrates. Any nitrate impact caused by Ripon Farm Service would be
substantial. Exposure to nitrates has been linked to blue baby syndrome and other
significant health consequences. The risk of exposing the current lural residences to
nitrates far outweighs the benefit (if any) of allowing Ripon Fann Service to move to the
area.
3. Ripon Farm Service's move to the area will tax local services. Emergency
personnel will be required to travel to this remote area in the event of a spill, causing a
longer response tune. Further, the company's presence will increase traffic and
automobile pollution in the area.
In sum, the aquifer is already vulnerable to nitrate contamination; therefore, any
impact to the residences' sole source of water would be devastating. It is essential that
the department be protective of the residences' health and well-being. We respectfully
request the department to deny Ripon Farm Service's application to relocate to 17266 E.
French Camp Road.
Very truly yours,
MAYALL, HURLEY, KNUTSEN, SMITH & GREEN
i
By:
ph A.
