I. INTRODUCTION
The proposed Stagno's Meat Company Abattoir is to be a completely self-contained meat processing
facility with animal holding pens, a separate manure storage area and wastewater treatment with on-
site land application. Treatment is to consist of a facultative pond. The entire facility is 12.5 acres
with approximately 7.0 acres of wastewater application cropland.
This document serves as a Nitrate Loading Study,Soil Suitability Study and Manure Management
Plan, all required by the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department for this project.
It also serves as supplementary information to the Report of Waste Discharge as required by the
California Regional Water Quality Control Board - Central Valley Region.
II. DESCRIPTION OF FACILITY PROCESSES AND
MANURE MANAGEMENT PLAN
Animals to be slaughtered will be trucked to the facility and placed in designated holding pens with
concrete floors for swine and dirt floors for all other types of animals. All holding pens are covered
with roll-up side curtains. The manure from the pens will be scraped or raked on a daily basis to
the center alley which will then be scraped to the concrete-lined and covered manure holding area.
There will be periodic wash downs of pens, contributing approximately 50 gallons of water, on
average, per day,. Since animals must be fed after 12 hrs of arrival, the majority will be slaughtered
_ within this time interval; therefore, manure production is based upon the number of animals killed
each day. The slaughterhouse will be a year round operation and will be operated under continuous
inspection by the Federal United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
A.
