Ground Zero Analysis, Inc. (Ground
Zero) submitted a Soil Removal Workplan dated March 16, 2011 to the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (EHD). Upon verbal approval from EHD the soil removal
activities were conducted on April 20, 2011. Figure 1 shows the location of the Site.
LIMITED SOIL EXCAVATON
Site Preparation and Permitting
Due to the shallow nature of the excavation permits were not required by EHD or the City of
Escalon (City). EHD and the City were given advance notice of the performed at the Site. The
area was cleared of underground utilities by Underground Services Alert (Ticket # 117257) prior
to the work being performed at the Site.
Soil Excavation
Soil excavation activities were conducted under the supervision of Eric Price, PG. On April 20,
2011, an area of 30-inches wide by 35 feet long was excavated by hand to a uniform depth of 12-
inches below grade. Approximately four cubic yards of soil was stockpiled on plastic sheeting
with 2-foot of overlap on each side. The stockpile was located on the McDowell and Davis yard
near the excavation. After EHD observed the stockpile sample collection, the plastic sheet
overlap was pulled up around the sides of the stockpile, and the stockpile was covered with
plastic held in place with sandbags. Field notes are included in Attachment A. Figure 2 shows
the area excavated in cross-section as well as the floor sample locations.
