f' KLE/NFELDER
Bnghl hook.PigM1f Solu,ieru.
• According to Sheet 1 of the State of California Division of Mines and Geology
publication titled "Geologic Map of the Sacramento Quadrangle, California 1:250,000"
dated 1981, the Norman's Nursery site is underlain by the lower member of the
Modesto Formation ("QM2"), which is comprised of alluvium from the adjacent hills.
Surrounding the site to the east and south is the andesitic conglomerate, sandstone
and breccia of the Mehrten Formation ("Tm").
2.4.4 Groundwater
According to the San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District's
document titled "Groundwater Report," dated Spring 2008, the elevation of the
unconfined aquifer beneath the Norman's Nursery area is approximately -10 feet mean
sea level (msl), and groundwater flows towards the southwest. According to the same
report, the depth to the unconfined aquifer in the area of the project site is
approximately 140 to 150 feet below the ground surface (bgs).
Subsurface investigations in the area of the project site have shown shallow perched
• groundwater zones in some areas. The results of the subsurface investigations do not
support continuity of perched groundwater zones across the site area. Evidence of
springs and vernal pools also exist in the area.
The origin of the shallow groundwater zones (assumed to be perched) encountered in
monitoring wells MW-2 and MW-5, and test pits TP-2 and TP-4 is unknown. Its
occurrence may be seasonal; however, the absence of free water in the test pits in the
center portion of the property and the historic lack of perched water in Monitoring Wells
MW-4s and MW-4d, suggest multiple perched groundwater zones. In addition, the lack
of perched groundwater in the center of the property appears to indicate that the
perched groundwater in monitoring wells MW-2 and MW-5 does not represent a single
continuous perched groundwater zone for which a groundwater flow direction and
gradient can be calculated across the entire site.
•
117226.E02IST012R0696 Page 6 of 43 September 14, 2012
Copyright 2012 Kleinfelder
