The nursery anticipates a reduction in the
nitrate concentrations in tailwater based upon the experiences of other
nurseries.
C) "CAN 17" liquid fertilizer is used by Norman's Nursery as a source of calcium
to green their plant stock. Unfortunately, CAN 17 is also a source of nitrates.
Therefore, in an effort to reduce the nitrate concentrations in their irrigation
tailwater, the nursery has begun blending 2 parts Thiocal® to 1 part CAN 17.
Thereby, dramatically reducing the amount of nitrogen used while still
insuring the viability of their plant stock.
D) On approximately a monthly basis, Western Farm Service conducts a soil/leaf
analysis of the nursery stock. This analysis gives Norman's Nursery the
information it needs to fertilize. To date, Norman's Nursery is following those
recommendations, to either increase or decrease the amount of fertilizer
required to create healthy nursery stock.
• E) Norman's Nursery has constructed a third on-site detention basin ("Basin A")
on the eastern portion of the property in 1999. The basin is used for storm
water retention as required by the County while a sump and above ground
storage tank were installed for storage of any tailwater that may make it in the
ditch leading to the basin during the irrigation season. That tailwater is used
by nursery staff for dust control on the dirt roads throughout the nursery.
Basin A's construction was completed in the Third Quarter of 1999.
• i
117226.E02/ST012R0696 Page 34 of 43 September 14, 2012
Copyright 2012 Kleinfelder
