2.0 Facility Description
The Derickson Trucking property is located a few miles north of Escalon, California on
the South Escalon Bellota Road between Magnolia and Lone Tree Roads (Exhibit 1).
The overall character of the area is rural and devoted to agriculture.
A concrete pad on which trucks were formerly fueled is located south of the entrance to
the property. At present, an excavation from which one 12,000 gallon diesel and one
2000 gallon gasoline underground tank were removed remains open at the south side
of this pad. Soil from the excavation is piled along the south, east and west side of the
pit. Two large adjacent warehouses are situated east of this former tank location. A
paved truck wash area adjoins these buildings on their north side and a truck scale is
located on the south. At the east side of the northernmost warehouse, another 2,000
gallon waste oil tank was removed. This excavation was filled, but its outline is
discernible due settling of the backfill. Residences along the main highway adjoin the
property to the north and south (See Exhibit 2 for a Facility Plot Plan).
3.0 Background
On October 1 , 1992 three underground storage tanks were removed by Crisp
Construction from the Derickson Trucking property in Escalon, California as follows:
One (1) 12,000 Gallon Diesel Tank
One (1) 2,000 Gallon Gasoline Tank
One (1) 2,000 Gallon Waste Oil Tank
Soil samples were collected from beneath the ends of the 2,000 gallon tanks and
beneath the ends and center of the 12,000 gallon tank. The diesel samples were
chemically analyzed for the volatile aromatics benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and
xylenes (BTEX) and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) referenced to diesel. The
gasoline tank samples were tested for BTEX, TPH as gasoline, ethylene dibromide
(EDB) and Total Lead. The waste oil tank samples were analyzed for BTEX, TPH
(diesel), TPH(gasoline), the polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and the metals listed in
Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations (CAM metals). The samples were
collected and analyzed by FGL Environmental. These preliminary assessment results
are listed in Table 1 with the exception of the CAM metals and PCB results which are
provided in Appendix.A. No PCBs were detected. All metals were below the Total
Threshold Limit Concentrations established in the regulations
3
