VALLEY AG
DATE: August 3, 2001
V.A.R.Job No: SSCR-06.01A
FOR: Mr. Dan Van Vuren
17463 East Gawne Road
Stockton,CA 95215
PROJECT: 17463 East Gawne Road
APN 183-10-02
SUBJECT: SURFACE AND SUBSURFACE CONTAMINATION REPORT
ADDENDUM
Reference is made to our Surface and Subsurface Contamination (SSCR) report dated July 12, 2001,
Job Number SSCR-06.01. The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department has requested
additional information regarding the above-referenced project. After a preliminary review of this report,
it was brought to my attention by the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department that the
Van Vuren dairy has been permitted as an Organic Dairy for approximately the past two years. On
Pages 1, 3 and 4, the SSCR references that the dairy has been in organic production for the past 10
years.
Due to this discrepancy, the Environmental Health Department has now requested additional
information regarding the possibility of pesticide residues within the cropland owned by the Van Vuren
Dairy. According to Mr. Van Vuren, there have been no pesticide applications made to the subject
property for the past ten years. Even if there were pesticide applications made up until the time of
organic milk production(approximately two years ago),the probability of residual, or degradate
products of pesticides is virtually nonexistent. The only residues which may be present would be the
organochlorine degradate compounds from DDT applications such as DDD/DDE, which was used
extensively until 1971. The newer agrichemical chemistries have a comparatively short environmental
half-life as documented in the scientific literature. As a Licensed Pest Control Advisor and a recognized
expert in pesticides by the Sate of California, it is my opinion that if there has been no pesticide
(herbicide or insecticide) applications made to the subject property for the past two years, the
probability of residual agrichemicals of newer chemistries within the soil environment is extremely
remote.
If there should be any questions regarding this Adldeow*Qllease contact the undersigned.
Respectfully submitted, ` , D.
BCH\`
VALLEY Ag RESEARCH No. 04675
e* Expires: '3122
(Don Chesney A°rT
Registered Environme tal Assessor#4675 Cl-I C,
Licensed Agricultural Pest Control Advisor#6237 cw s
P.O.
