The San Joaquin County ErrvirwirncnEal Hcallh Department has requested
additional information regarding the above-referenced project. After a preliminary review of this report,
it was brought to my attention by the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department that the
Van Vuren dairy has been permitted as an Organic Dairy for approximately the past two years. On
Pages 1,3 and 4,the SSCR references that the dairy has been in organic production for the past 10
years,
Due w this discrepancy, the Environmental Health Department has now requested additional
information regarding the possibility of pesticide residues within the cropland owned by the Van Vuren
Dairy. According to Mr.Van Vuren, there have been no pesticide applications made to the subject
property for the past ten years. Even if there were pesticide applications made up until the time of
organic milk lsr»ductinn(approximately two years ago),the probability of residual,or degradate
products of pesticides is virtually nonexistent. The only residues which may be present would be the
` organochlorine degradate compounds from DDT applications such as DDD/DDE,which was used
i extensively until 1471. The newer agriehamieal chemistries have a comparativcly short elivironriieutal
E half-life as documented in the scientific literature. As a Licensed Pest Control Advisor and a recognized
expert in pesticides by the Sate ofCalifornia,it is my opinion that ifthere has been no pesticide
f (herbicide or insecticide)appliudiuns made to the subject property for the past two years, the
probability of residual agrichemicals of newer chemistries within the soil environment is extremely
remote.
If there should be any questions regarding this AddoNm4lease contact the undersigned.
Respectfully submitted, 0.
VALLEY Ag RESEARCH f04a U
Eplres. • 's
Don Chesney
I Registered Environm tat Assessor#4675 , CA fad
I ,
Licensed Agricultural Post Control Advisor#6237''
P.O.Box 3794 1 Turlock,California 95381 s (209)668-1403 • Fix(209)658-2598
E
I
