Environmental Impact Summary Letter Page 7
TEIXEIRA—SOUZA PROPERTY
WKA No. 6504.07
TRANSFORMER DISPOSITION
The subject property contains several pole-mounted transformers that may contain
polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). PCBs were historically used in electrical transformers until
banned by the federal government in 1978. According to the Pacific Gas &Electric Company
(PG&E), they provide services to remove and recycle old transformers. To provide this service,
PG&E requires an application for transformer removal, a site plan showing the locations of each
transformer, and the identification numbers for each transformer, if known. There is a fee for
processing the application.
If PG&E determines that any of the transformers contained PCBs,a visual inspection of the soil
below each transformer will need to be completed to determine whether the soil has been
impacted and whether soil sampling is warranted. Based on the results of the visual inspection
and sampling activities, PCB-impacted soil may need to be removed and properly disposed prior
to redevelopment of the subject property. A report summarizing the removal of each
transformer, the results of the visual inspection of soil, and results of any sampling activities will
be forthcoming.
Should you have any questions concerning this letter, please contact me at(209)234-7722.
Wallace-Kuhl & Associates.
