Environmental Impact Summary Letter Page 6
TEIXEIRA—SOUZA PROPERTY
WKA No. 6504.07
wells are identified, they will require destruction in accordance with the San Joaquin County
EHD requirements.
Review of San Joaquin County files did not uncover any record of the construction details for the
water supply wells or the monitoring well. However, based on a visual inspection, the
monitoring well appears to be constructed of 2-inch diameter,Schedule 40,polyvinyl chloride
well casing and slotted pipe. The well depth is approximately 25 feet below ground surface.
Construction details of the water supply wells could not be determined during the site
reconnaissance due to the well head piping obstructing views of the well casing. To determine
construction materials and construction details for each well requiring destruction, a well
destruction contractor will need to conduct a thorough inspection of each well. Inspection
methods may require the use of downhole video equipment.
Further details on the well destruction requirements and procedures are presented in the
January 11,2006 Site Preparation Recommendations— Well Destruction Report prepared by
Wallace-Kuhl & Associates Inc.
SEPTIC SYSTEM ABANDONMENT
The existing residences on the subject property were serviced by at le t two n-site septic
systems. The actual number of septic systems and their construction I will need to be
researched by reviewing San Joaquin County files. Regardless of the number of systems and
their design, the septic systems are unlikely to have affected subsurface soils with hazardous
materials, based on expected residential waste effluent as opposed to commercial or industrial
wastewater discharges.
Each of the septic systems and associated leach fields and/or dry wells must be properly
abandoned in accordance with the requirements of the San Joaquin County EHD and
recommendations of a qualified geotechnical engineer. The specific septic system abandonment
requirements will be determined during the San Joaquin County EHD permitting process.
Typical in-place abandonment procedures include breaking out the bottom of the septic tanks;
filling the septic tanks with soil, grout, or other approved material under San Joaquin County
EHD oversight; and, observing earthworking activities in the area of the leach fields.
A report identifying the number of septic systems, their construction details, and the
abandonment procedures is forthcoming.
