► To mitigate the loss,the entire corridor will be planted with numerous new trees, including several oak <br /> species and California pepper. These plantings will extend along the entire corridor of Grant Line Road <br /> between Mountain House Parkway and the County line. Trees will be planted throughout the median and on — <br /> both streetscapes on either side of the planned roadway widening. <br /> ► In addition to landscaping, entry monument portal structures,themed in the Civic Italianate architectural style, <br /> will be constructed on both ends of the Grant Line Road corridor within the community,per the current <br /> requirements of the Master Plan and Mountain House Community Services District(MHCSD)Design <br /> Manual, and these structures will contain commemorative plaques that mark the historic Lincoln Highway. <br /> In addition,pre-approved Lincoln Highway Association signs will be added along the corridor as additional <br /> markers to inform motorists,pedestrians, and bicyclists of the significance of this corridor(Trimark 2004). <br /> In response to the above proposals,the West Side Pioneer Association responded that all the conditions were <br /> mutually agreed upon(West Side Pioneer Association 2004). Therefore,provision of the above street tree and <br /> monumentation plan by Trimark would satisfy the Association's concerns with respect to removal of the mature <br /> trees along Grant Line Road, consistent with the MHMP design guidelines. <br /> Byron—Bethany Irrigation District Ditch (P-39-4271) — <br /> Peak and Associates (2001)conducted an intensive pedestrian survey of the Delta College property, in the <br /> southwest comer of the College Park site, and recorded a section of the Byron—Bethany Irrigation District(BBID) <br /> ditch system. Although not formally recorded,contiguous sections of this ditch occur in the southern portion of <br /> the project site. Although this feature retains its historical integrity, it is not necessarily associated with any <br /> particular significant individual or event in California history. As such, it is not considered eligible for listing on <br /> the CRHR(Peak and Associates 2001). <br /> Historic Artifact Scatter(CA-SJO-230H) <br /> The southernmost cultural resource documented as a result of the various field and documentary investigations <br /> that have taken place at the College Park site consists of a scatter of historic-era artifacts,possibly dating to as <br /> early as the latter decades of the 19th century(CA-SJo-230H).According to Baker and Shoup(1991),this <br /> property was owned by a Mr. E.S. Bonsall as early as 1870 until at least 1895, and by 1912 the property had <br /> passed into the ownership of a J.F. Faulkner(Baker and Shoup 1991).A residence is pictured on this property <br /> according to a 1916 U.S. Geological Survey(USGS)topographic quadrangle map and artifacts noted by Baker <br /> and Shoup(glass fragments,nails, ceramics, etc.)indicated occupation from the late 19th century into the early <br /> decades of the 20th century. It is not known when the residence was demolished but other than the documented <br /> artifacts,no trace of any structures remains today.Because of the lack of structures and lack of any notable <br /> historic associations with the property,the CA-SJo-230H site is not considered eligible for CRHR listing(Peak <br /> and Associates 2001). <br /> Residential Complex-16895 W. Grant Line Road (P-39-4371) <br /> The buildings on this property include a single-story residence, a detached garage, and a small shed.The <br /> residence, constructed in 1947, features a low-pitched, side-gable roof with composition tiles.The window <br /> treatments,a combination of fixed and double-hung sash, appear original.The wood-framed, detached garage sits <br /> around back of the house, a typical feature of the 1940s. This building displays a gable roof and shiplap siding.A <br /> small gable-roofed shed is located west of the residence. According to Dougherty(2003)the house was <br /> apparently moved to the site from the Alameda Naval Station sometime in the 1960s. <br /> The lack of detailing and compact form of the house points to a variation of the Minimal Traditional style,which <br /> was popular from just before World War H throughout the 1950s. Homes of this type were built in great numbers <br /> throughout the United States.
