MOUNTAIN HOUSE PROPOSED ALTAMONT HEIGHTS TENTATIVE MAP 4. ENVIRONMENTAL CHECKLIST <br /> 4.13 PuBuc SERVICES <br /> Law Enforcement <br /> The San Joaquin County Sheriff provides law enforcement services to the Mountain House <br /> Community under contract with the MHCSD. The County Sheriff employs 124 uniformed <br /> deputies who serve people in the unincorporated areas of San Joaquin County. There is a <br /> sheriff's office at the Mountain House fire station. The project site is located in Beat Area 8, <br /> which includes the unincorporated areas near Tracy bounded by the Alameda County line to <br /> the west,the Stanislaus county line to the south and east,and the Old River to the north. <br /> These same officers act as deputy coroners by responding to unattended deaths in San <br /> Joaquin County(EDAW, 2005b). <br /> Public Schools <br /> Lammersville Elementary School District <br /> The project site is located in the service area of the Lammersville Elementary School District <br /> (LESD), which serves kindergarten through 8th grade (K-8) students from the <br /> unincorporated area of the County to the north and south of Interstate 205 (I-205). LESD <br /> currently operates two public elementary schools, Lammersville and Wicklund. Wicklund <br /> Elementary School, located along Legacy Drive in Neighborhood F of the Mountain House <br /> Community,was designed with a capacity for 875 students. Enrollment in August 2006 was <br /> 659 students (Machado Checklist, 2006). <br /> LESD plans to construct and operate two new K-8 schools in the Mountain House <br /> Community area in Neighborhoods E and G of the Specific Plan I project area. Construction <br /> of the Bethany Elementary School in Neighborhood E began in August 2006, and it will open <br /> in August 2007 (Machado Checklist, 2006). These two schools would serve students in the <br /> Specific Plan Ili area (where the proposed project is located) until the schools planned to <br /> specifically serve the Specific Plan III area are constructed(EDAW, 2005b). <br /> Tracy Unified School District <br /> The Mountain House Community is located in the service area of the Tracy Unified School <br /> District(TUSD), which provides public high school services. TUSD currently serves <br /> approximately 5,400 high school students at two comprehensive high schools and one <br /> continuation high school. The closest comprehensive high school to the project site is West <br /> High School, located at 1775 West Lowell Avenue in Tracy, approximately 6 miles from the <br /> Mountain House Conununity. <br /> In August 2006, 123 students from the Mountain House Community were enrolled in TUSD <br /> high schools. Almost all Mountain House Community high school students currently attend <br /> West High School (Machado Checklist, 2006). This school was originally designed for a <br /> capacity of 2,400 students,but current attendance is approximately 2,900 students. West <br /> High School utilizes rented portable classrooms to provide the additional classroom space. <br /> The second comprehensive high school operated by TUSD is Tracy High School, which has <br /> a capacity for 1,800 students. Tracy High School currently accommodates 2,500 students <br /> and also uses rented portable classrooms for additional classroom space. <br /> In 2006,TUSD plans to begin construction of a new school facility along Lammers Road to <br /> accommodate students in grades 6 through 12. TUSD also plans to begin the first phases of <br /> 4-63 <br />
