Unpaved Roads and Unpaved Traffic Areas. Opacity Test Method. Readings 1 meter above surface. Two readings per vehicle: zero seconds and 5 seconds. Observe 6 vehicles within 1 hour. Section 2. Opacity,Time Averaged. Readings at 15-second intervals: make 12 or 24 readings. Readings may be interrupted and still considered consecutive, if for example the source moves outside the range of observation Section 3. Stabilization. Visible Crust Determination. Steel ball drop test. 3 drops per square foot;test 3 areas per site. Silt content for Unpaved Roads and Vehicle Traffic Areas. Sieve test. Obtain V xl' shallow sample. Weigh sample. Sieve sample aggressively. Weigh fine material in bottom pan. Calculate. Threshold Friction Velocity. Use sieve test: sieve gently. Measure volume of largest catch. Compare to TFV chart. Test includes corrections for non-erodable elements Flat Vegetative Cover. Line transect method. 100-foot measure. Use 3132" pointer for coverage at each foot. Express result as simple percentage. 50%coverage=stabilized. Standing Vegetative Cover. Involves height and width of dense vegetation, numbers of vegetation, and the application of formulas to calculate percent coverage. Vegetative density. Involves gridline point counting,then formulas to arrive at frontal silhouette. Rock Test Method. Survey sample areas for numbers and sizes of non-erodable elements. 10% _ stabilized. 8021 Construction, Excavation, etc.- Exemptions. Blasting, maintenance of existing buildings additions to single family dwellings, mowing/disking weeds on sites less than 1/2 acre,and landfill daily cover. Requirements. Demolition. Required for any site with 40 acres disturbed or at which 2,500 yards is moved 3 days in one year. 8031 Bulk Materials Applies to materials with silt content above 5%, to sites with 100 cumulative cubic yards(+). Exemptions. Material damaged by water AND not controllable by other methods. Material transport 12 feet or less in a conveyer, Agricultural sources(see 8081)and landfill cover.
