In reviewing files at the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department office, it appears there is not groundwater contamination experienced
in this area. The water results, discussed later in this report, show no signs of
groundwater contamination in this area.
VI. SOIL PROFILE AND PERCOLATION TESTS
Two test holes were excavated to depths of 3.5 feet in the area of the
homesite areas. One hole was excavated near the existing septic system, but did
not disturb the existing system. The purpose of the test holes was to determine
percolation rate in this area. For approximate location of the test holes, see the
Tentative Parcel Map in the Appendix. The holes were prepared in accordance with
County Standards.
Generally the surface soils consisted of top soil underlain with a layer of hard
pan. As shallow percolation tests proved inadequate deep(percolation tests were
performed. (See discussion and results later in this report)
Two shallow percolation tests were performed in holes 9 inches in diameter
by 42 inches deep backfilled with 2 inches of gravel. There was standing water in
the holes at the start of the test. The two holes were filled with water 24 hours
prior to running the test. The test holes for Parcel 1 and Parcel 2 were performed
under a 4 hour test. The last half hour of the test readings were witnessed by a
County Health Official and the test data obtained is enclosed in the Appendix.
Parcel Number Percolation Rate (Shallow Test)
1 N/A
2 240 min/in
Deep tests were performed by Neil O. Anderson and Associates (Anderson).
They also performed shallow tests. The soils Iithology, as noted in the test
pit, is noted on the data sheet provided by the County (See Appendix).
Future septic areas will most likely experience similar soil Iithology. A
summary of Anderson's results is as follows:
Percolation Rate Percolation Rate
Parcel Number Shallow Test Deep Test
1 31 min/inch 125 min/inch
2 62 min/inch 85 min/inch
2
C:\0338\Soil Suitability Report 072203
