Generally the surface soils consisted of top soil underlain with a layer of hard
pan. As shallow percolation tests proved inadequate, deep percolation tests were
performed. (See discussion and results later in this report)
Two shallow percolation tests were performed in holes 9 inches in diameter
by 42 inches deep backfilled with 2 inches of gravel. There was standing water in
the holes at the start of the test. The two holes were filled with water 24 hours
prior to running the test. The test holes for Parcel 1 and Parcel 2 were performed
under a 4 hour test. The last half hour of the test readings were witnessed by a
County Health Official and the test data obtained is enclosed in the Appendix.
Parcel Number Percolation Rate (Shallow Test)
1 N/A
2 240 min/in
Deep tests were performed by Neil O. Anderson and Associates (Anderson).
They also performed shallow tests. See appendix for hole location. The
soils lithology, as noted in the test pit, is noted on the data sheet provided by
the County (See Appendix). Also, see section VI of this report for lithology.
Future septic areas will most likely experience similar soil lithology. A
summary of Anderson's results is as follows:
Percolation Rate Percolation Rate
Parcel Number Shallow Test Deep Test
1 31 .25 min/inch 125 min/inch
2 62.5 min/inch 83.3 min/inch
The test holes by Anderson were dug with an augur. The holes were
approximately 10" in diameter. The shallow tests were dug to four feet deep and
the deep tests were approximately 25 feet deep. The test holes were dug August
4, 2003. The test were to be performed on August 6, 2003. The tests would
have been performed on August 5, 2003 but they were postponed due to lightning.
The holes were dug in the morning and the tests were performed in the morning.
There was standing water noted but Anderson but depth was not measured.
The test holes prepared by Anderson were intact when the tests began.
There was standing water in the holes after the 24 hour pre soak period. See
Appendix for the information.
3
C:\0338\Soil Suitability Report 072203
