v
unit dwelling. In other words, technically the 53 acres could have four home sites
with four separate septic systems.
V. GROUND WATER AND DEPTH TESTING
According to the map of "Lines of Equal Depth of Water Wells" published
Fall, 1999, by the San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conversation
District, the depth to groundwater at this location is approximately 120 feet. (See
appendix).
The groundwater gradient map is included in the appendix. The gradient in
the project area is descending in a northwesterly direction.
In reviewing files at the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department office, it appears there is not groundwater contamination experienced
in this area. The water results, discussed later in this report, show no signs of
groundwater contamination in this area.
VI. SOIL LITHOLOGY
The general Iithology of the soil in this area is adobe and hardpan. The test
holes taken in Parcel 2 were predominantly hardpan. The shallow test taken on
Parcel 1 had a strata of adobe mixed with loam at 42 inches. The deep test
encountered hardpan to 25 feet depth. The auger used by Anderson while
preparing the holes was the source of visual observation of the Iithology.
After reviewing records of other septics and pits in this vicinity, I would
expect future septic systems to encounter hardpan. All records indicated that leach
lines and pits have been used in the vicinity of the project. Since this report did not
locate a strata with an acceptable percolation rate, a future system will require an
engineered system unless a strata that percolates to Environmental Health's
standards is encountered.
VII. SOIL PROFILE AND PERCOLATION TESTS
Two test holes were excavated to depths of 3.5 feet in the area of the
homesite areas. One hole was excavated near the existing septic system, but did
not disturb the existing system. The purpose of the test holes was to determine
percolation rate in this area. For approximate location of the test holes, see the
Tentative Parcel Map in the Appendix. The holes were prepared in accordance with
County Standards.
2
C:\0338\Soil Suitability Report 072203
