( VYATC
A S S O C I A T E S I N C
SCOPE OF WORK
Planning and Permits
ATC has completed the soil boring permit application for the proposed subsurface investigation.
The permit application and associated fees (check no. 114) are attached to this workplan. ATC
will also schedule field personnel and equipment, notify Underground Service Alert to locate
underground utilities as required, and perform any other necessary field preparation and job start-
up activities.
Advancement of Soil Boring
To determine the vertical extent of soil and groundwater contamination at the site, one soil boring
will be advanced until three consecutive soil samples that contain no physical evidence (odor, PID
readings, etc.) of petroleum hydrocarbons are collected or until groundwater is encountered. The
estimated maximum depth that will be explored is approximately 80 feet below ground surface
(bgs) during this phase of the investigation. The soil boring will be advanced through the
excavation area of the former 1,000-gallon UST, identified as Tank #3, at the approximate
location where the 1986 soil sample was collected. The proposed boring location is shown on
Figure 2.
The soil boring will be advanced until three consecutive soil samples that contain no physical
evidence (odor, PID readings, etc.) of petroleum hydrocarbons are collected, or to a depth of
approximately 80 feet using a hollow stem auger equipped drill rig. Drilling will be conducted by
a State-licensed (C57) drilling company. A field geologist will be present to log all drill cuttings
and soil samples. Descriptions of soil types encountered and sample collection intervals will be
recorded on boring logs. Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals or significant
changes in lithology, field screened with a PID, and at least two samples from the boring will be
submitted for laboratory analysis. All drill cuttings will be contained in 55-gallon DOT approved
drums until laboratory results are received.
Groundwater is estimated to exist at 70 feet bgs at the site. If groundwater is encountered in the
boring, a grab groundwater sample will be collected from the boring using a disposable bailer.
After the groundwater sample is collected, we will continue to collect soil samples to depth of
approximately 80 feet. Following soil and groundwater sample collection the open sampling hole
will be grouted through a tremie pipe to the surface with neat cement.
If field observations (i.e., visual inspection, PID readings, olfaction) indicate the presence of
petroleum hydrocarbons in the boring, additional borings may be required to fully delineate the
extent of contamination. The need for additional borings will be discussed with PHS/EHD and
the client prior to performing additional work.
w:\1 a565Vq>orWv&p.dm 2
