• 08 May 1996
AGE-NC Project No 95-0101
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
AGE proposes to install a "limited" SVE system consisting of a regenerative blower and carbon
canister PVC piping will be installed underground from VW-1 and MW-2 to the blower The blower
and carbon canister will be placed near the fence at the southern corner of the site We anticipate a
2 to 4 month treatment period However, the duration of the "limited" SVE treatment will be based
upon field and laboratory data
Extracted organic vapors (OVs) will be monitored on a daily basis during the start-up period
(approximately 1 to 2 weeks) After the initial start-up period, extracted vapor concentrations will
be measured on a weekly basis Monitoring will be performed using a photo-ionization detectoi
(PID Thermo Environmental 580A, 10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene)
Soil vapor samples will be collected on a monthly basis for analysis Samples will be collected using
a pump in a Tedlar bag The sample will then be transported under chain-of-custody to a State-
certified laboratory for analysis Each soil vapor sample will be analyzed for TPH-g and BTE&X in
accordance with the appropriate EPA methods
• 4.0. PROCEDURES
4 1 SYSTEM INSTALLATION
The following procedures will be performed for the installation of the SVE system
1 Notify the PHS/EHD 48 hours prior to the commencement of any work
2 Obtain any necessary permits or exemptions from the San Joaquin County Air Pollution
Control District for the operation of the vapor extraction system
3 Install an Explosion-Proof Regenerative Blower The blower will be placed inside a locked
box and secured
4 Install PVC piping from vadose zone well VW-1 and monitoring well MW-2 to the
regenerative blower input Trenching will be installed between VW-1, MW-2 and the blower
location One-inch diameter PVC piping will be installed in the trenching and the surface
finished with concrete Sampling ports will be installed at VW-1 and MW-2 Valves will be
installed to allow extraction from each well independently The piping at MW-2 will be
installed so that ground water monitoring can be conducted The proposed location of the
regenerative blower and underground piping is shown on Figure 2
• 5 Install PVC piping from the blower output to a carbon canister air stripper Output from the
carbon canister will be vented to the air Carbon canisters will be replaced as necessary and
