Project Description —Report of Composting Site Information <br /> Tracy Materlal Recovery Facility and Transfer Stat7on <br /> 30703 5. Mac*ffiur Drive, Tracy, California 95377 <br /> Size-Reduction and Mixing - Materials are processed through a tub grinder where they <br /> are shredded and ground. Composting mixes are prepared in one process by <br /> alternating loads of various feedstocks into the grinder. <br /> Screening - Ground materials are screened into various sizes depending on the product <br /> to be produced. Contaminants are removed. <br /> Wood Products - Various products such as mulch, landscape chips, and co-generation <br /> fuel are stored or shipped off-site. <br /> Windrowing - Some of the ground materials are placed in windrows for composting. <br /> The rapid decomposition phase of the process will take approximately 12 weeks. The <br /> curing phase of the composting process will take approximately 8 weeks <br /> Screening- Finished compost will be screened based on the product to be produced. <br /> Storage - Finished compost products-are moved to a storage area or shipped off-site. <br /> The Composting Facility is a part of the Tracy MRF & TS. In addition to the above <br /> described operations, the facility will be planned and developed with various functional <br /> areas. The following activities and/or functional areas are included within this facility: <br /> Sorting of non-hazardous solid waste and/or collected recyclables recyclables <br /> obtained from a curbside collection program in the City of Tracy are received at the <br /> facility and processed. In addition selected loads of solid waste may be sorted for <br /> separation of recyclables. <br /> Transfer area for the transport of residual waste to landfill: residential, commercial, and <br /> industrial non-processable wastes are received at the facility, unloaded onto the tipping <br /> floor, any recyclables or materials which should not be landfilled will be sorted out on <br /> the floor, and the remaining wastes moved by rubber-tired loader to the transfer trucks <br /> for landfill disposal. <br /> Processing of the recyclables from sorting and curbside collection 2[mrams. source <br /> separated and buy back recyclables are processed at sort lines and baled or stored in <br /> bins or bunkers for transfer off-site for reuse. <br /> Administration and maintenance area: an administration and maintenance building are <br /> provided for both the operation of the Tracy MRF &TS and for the refuse collection <br /> operations. This includes offices and work areas for management personnel and <br /> administrative employees, restrooms, conference rooms, storage areas, vehicle <br /> maintenance bays, paint booth and truck/equipment wash area. <br /> Truck parking: an area is provided for bin storage and for parking of collection trucks t <br /> and transfer trailers.
