Location <br /> This facility is located at 21490 S Ortigalita Rd., in Los Banos, California.The District has <br /> determined that this location is not within 1,000 feet of the outer boundary of the nearest K-12 <br /> school. Therefore, the school notice requirements of California Health & Safety Code 42301.6 <br /> do not apply to this project. <br /> IV. Process Description <br /> The primary function of this facility is the processing of almonds, including receiving, <br /> precleaning, hulling, and shelling. The equipment for these processing operations uses a great <br /> deal of electrical energy, so to reduce the cost of purchasing electrical energy, Parreira intends <br /> to install a full-time internal combustion engine powering a generator. Parreira further intends <br /> to install a gasifier and associated processing and safety equipment to convert solid biomass <br /> feedstock, specifically including almond hulls and shells, orchard waste material, and plain <br /> wooden pallets, into a synthetic flammable gas to fuel the engine. <br /> While almond hulls and shells are already appropriately sized for the gasifier, other biomass <br /> material will be chipped into small pieces off-site, and screened to remove dust, before being <br /> delivered for use as feedstock. The feedstock is conveyed to the top of the gasifier, which is <br /> equipped with two interlocked doors for feedstock addition.When feedstock is added to the <br /> gasifier,the outer door opens to allow the feedstock to fall into the feed area.When sufficient <br /> feedstock has been added, the conveyor is stopped and the outer door closed.
