Escalon Subdivision <br /> Page 4 ; <br /> r May 30,2000 <br /> Seven (7) soil borings were drilled on the 68.26 acre parcel; one boring on each of the 10- <br /> acre+- lots. No ground water was encountered in any of the borings. The soil condition most <br /> commonly encountered was a loose to very dense silty sand generally present between the ground <br /> surface and the 2 to 6 foot depth. As indicated the site has been deep ripped by agricultural <br /> equipment to break up the cemented soils or hardpan. Pieces of the hardpan were visible in the soil <br /> matrix. <br /> The surface silty sand was underlain by various strata of very dense sand, very dense sand <br /> with silt,very dense clayey sand or very dense sand with clay.For a more detailed description of the <br /> soils encountered see the log or boring sheets (Plate No.s 2-8). <br /> Test boring logs show subsurface conditions at the date and locations indicated,and it is not <br /> ` warranted that they are representative of subsurface conditions at other locations and times. <br /> �. V DESIGN STUDIES AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> From a soil engineering standpoint,it is our opinion that the site is suitable for development <br /> ` of the proposed residences,access roads,and underground utilities,however, all of the conclusions <br /> and recommendations presented in this report should be incorporated in the design and construction <br /> to avoid soil and foundation problems. The main concern for the building pads is the variable loose <br /> surface soils that are the results of past agricultural and ripping activities. <br /> Although the deep ripping typically extends 4 to 6 feet,a majority of potential settlement has <br /> ` likely occurred due to cohesionless soil conditions, overburden soil pressure, and past ground <br /> cultivation. Consequently, only the upper 24 inches of proposed building pads needs to be <br /> ` "reworked" in order to sensify loose soil pockets and provide a uniform pad. <br /> Building Pad Grading <br /> r <br /> The site should initially be cleared of all surface organic growth as recommended in <br /> Appendix A,Engineered Fill Specifications. After clearing operations and any cuts have been made, <br /> r the loose surface soil should be over-excavated to a minimum depth of 12 inches and stock piled for <br /> re-use. The resulting subgrade after over-excavation should be scarified 12 inches, moisture <br /> conditioned if necessary, and recompacted as recommended in Appendix A. The over-excavated <br /> material may then be replaced and compacted as engineered fill. Fill placed on building pads should <br /> be placed as engineered fill as recommended in Appendix A. The over-excavated and filled area <br /> should extend a minimum of 5 feet beyond proposed footing lines.
