November 23,2005
NOA Project Number. E05141A
L The EPA's Restricted Use Products (RUP) Report,12 the U.C. Davis Extension Toxicology Network
(EXTOXNET) web site," and the Pesticide Management Education Program (PMEP) at Cornell
University web site"were consulted for information on the chemicals reportedly applied to the subject
L property. Based on these sources,it appears that only Lorsban (chlorpyrifos) and Buctril(bromoxynil
heptanoate and octanoate) are RUPs.
According to EXTOXNET,chlorpyrifos is a broad spectrum insecticide which is moderately toxic to
humans. It adsorbs strongly to soil particles and is not readily soluble in water,so it is unlikely to leach
to groundwater. The half-life of chlorpyrifos in soil is usually between 60 and 120 days, but can range
from 2 weeks to over 1 year (PIP, 1993).
i.
According to EXTOXNET,bromoxynil is a nitrile herbicide that is used for post-emergent control of
annual broadleaf weeds. Bromoxynil is moderately toxic and has a half-life of ten days to two weeks
L depending on the soil type (PIP, 1994).
3.L6 [Cuter Supply and Sewage Disposal System
One domestic well and one septic system are located on the subject property. The locations of these
features are indicated on the site map (Appendix A).
L
The EHD well and septic permit files were searched on October 18,2005 in an effort to obtain copies
of permits for any water wells or septic tanks on the subject prop free permits were found. The
first permit, dated August 1976,was for a new domestic well to the 49 o e' residence. The permit
indicated that an old well had been grouted without an inspection and would need to be destroyed
j under permit. A septic system to the south of the residence was also indicated on the permit. The
L second permit, dated September 1976,was for a pump installation. The well location was not depicted.
The third permit, dated December 1999, was for an addition to the existing septic system. These
Lpermits have been included in Appendix F of this report.
h
L
L
i
L 12U.S.Environmental Protection Agency(EPA),June 2003,Restricted Use Products(RUP)Report.
L11University of California,Davis,Extension Toxicology Network(EXTOXNET),
http://exto=et.orst.edu/ghindex.html.
in14Comell University,Pesticide Management Education Program,http://pmep.cce.comefl.edu/.
8
L "04
L
