L
November 23, 2005
NOA Project Number: E05141A
L 3.4 Past Off-Site Sources of Contamination
F No above-or bel w-ground potential or known sources of contamination to the subject property were
identified fro ast uses of surrounding properties, except for the following:
• Surrounding properties have been used for agriculture in the past;agricultural chemicals may
►. have been applied to these properties.
3.5 Current Off-Site Sources of Contamination
No a ve-or below-gt d potential or known sources of contamination to the subject property were
identified fro ent uses of the surrounding properties, except for the following:
• Surrounding properties are used for agriculture;agricultural chemicals may be applied to these
Lproperties.
• Surrounding properties utilize private wells and septic systems.
L -EVALUiQTION OF IDENTIFIED CONTAMINATION SOURCES
i
Q.Nopemvidence w found to indicate that the agricultural chemicals used on the property were applied
pro y
I Confinement of animals within small areas may lead to an accumulation of nitrogen compounds within
1. soil, which then have the potential to leach to groundwater.
If water wells are not properly operated and maintained, they can serve as contamination conduits to
groundwater. Septic systems may be used for inappropriate disposal of hazardous substances. In this
case, there is no evidence to suggest that wells or septic systems may be contaminant pathways on the
subject property or vicinity.
4
5.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
` Given the historical uses of agricultural chemicals on the subject property, meaningful conclusions
regarding the presence or extent of such material cannot be determined without soil sampling and
analysis. Such sampling and analysis is especially warranted in the conversion of agricultural land into
►. residential use.
Should the current residents of the subject property be interested in determining the quality of their
drinking water, EHD should be contacted for direction regarding the potential for impacts to
groundwater from the agricultural history of the property and vicinity.
Y
L
11
L
L
