( October 10,2001
Project No. 8062.GWTF Evaivation of Water Quality/Frewet Road,Lathrop, A
water. The river water was carefully allowed to fill the appropriate laboratory preserved sampling
containers. The containers were sealed, checked for headspace, labeled and 'placed into a pre-
chilled ice chest for temporary storage. ,
Groundwater samples P-1, P-2 and P-4 and river water sample SJR-1 were delivered under chain-
of-custody documentation to McCampbell Analytical, Inc. of Pacheco- t ornia, a State
certified hazardous waste testing laboratory (Certification No. 1644) for analysis. The water
samples were analyzed for organochloride pesticides, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and
CAM 17 metals using Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Methods 8080A, 8260 and
6000/7000 series. In addition, the groundwater and river water samples were also analyzed for
nitrate as N, ammonia-N, total recoverable phenolics, total kjeldalh nitrogen-N, chloride, total
coliform and fecal coliform bacteria using EPA Methods 353.3, 350.2, 420.1, 351.3, 300.0, SM
9221B and SM 92218
Laboratory Analytical Results
Based on the laboratory analytical results of groundwater samples P1, P-2 and P-4 and river
sample SJR-1 reported no detectable concentrations of VOCs, most organochloride pesticides
and most metals. A low concentration of DDE was detected in groundwater sample P-1 (0.023
micrograms per liter [µg/L])but DDE was not detected in river sample SJR-1. Arsenic, barium,
lead, vanadium and zinc were detected in most groundwater samples, but not within river water
sample SJR-1, with the exception of barium. Nitrate as N was detected in all samples, ranging
from 1.5 milligrams per liter (mg/L) to 40 mg/L, while ammonia as N or total recoverable
phenolics were not detected in any sample analyzed. Total kjeldahl nitrogen as N was detected in
groundwater sample P-4 (1.5 mg/L) and river sample SJR-1 (3.0 mg/L), but was not detected in
groundwater samples P-1 or P-2. Chloride was detected in all samples analyzed, and ranged from
93 mg/L (in river sample SJR-1) to 350 mg/L (in groundwater sample P-4). Total coliform
bacteria were not detected in most groundwater samples (P-1 and P-3), but were detected in
groundwater sample P-4 at the most probable number (mpn) 13, while they were detected at a
very high concentration in the river water sample SJR-1 at greater than or equal too 1,600 mpn.
Fecal coliform bacterial were not detected in any groundwater samples, but was detected in the
river water sample SJR-1 at 50 mpn. The laboratory analytical results are summarized in Table 2,
Laboratory Analysis of Water Samples and McCampbell Analytical, Inc.'s laboratory analytical
report and chain-of-custody form are attached.
Page 2
TERRASEARCH, inc.
