Nitrate analysis of the on-site domestic wells was not conducted for this report. Present and
future agricultural activities on the subject and nearby properties, and in the surrounding region
may contribute potential environmental concerns, primarily nitrate contamination. However,
this may be said of any agricultural operations within the County. The cropland is under
conventional (not organic)production. Therefore, pesticides, and organic/synthetic fertilizers
are applied under permit from the County Agricultural Commissioner to the subject property.
Contemporary pest control agrichemicals are softer on the environment with shorter half-lives
in comparison to materials used two or more decades ago.
§ 3.0 IDENTIFICATION OF ALL PAST AND CURRENT SOURCES
OF CONTAMINATION
§3.1 Discussion of the methods used to research and investigate the potential or known above-
ground and below ground sources of contamination at the site include the following:
The first source of environmental information is the EHD Envisions Program Records. C3 I I
These documents provide all available public environmental information on leaking J
underground storage tanks and hazardous materials release surrounding the subject property.
No listings were noted for all the names associated with the subject property, which are:
Faria, Tony Faria, F&L Family Trust, Faria Farms, Faria Dairy, or for the physical addresses (3.2-36)
and/or APNs listed on the Title Page.
The second informational gathering source was direct observation of the entire property and
the Environmental Questionnaire found in Appendix B. The Questionnaire documents
environmental information obtained directly from Tony Faria. He has personally farmed the
property since 1999. He is the most knowledgeable of the activities that have taken place on
and around the subject property. As noted, there is no agrichemical storage on the property. 1
The third informational source is the Geotracker Site List from the State Water Resources /
Control Board for underground (USTs) and leaking underground fuel tanks (LUFTs). As
noted, no USTs or LUFTs were noted on the Geotracker Site List within 1000 ft of the site. 6. 1
The fourth informational source is the USDA Soil Maps indicating the soil type under the
property. The surface soil structure of the property is a Madera sandy loam. The surface
layer is typically a brown sandy loam about 20 inches thick. Below this stratum may exist a
clay loam which would be beneficial for mitigation of nitrate formation and inhibiting the
downward migration of pesticides.
§ 3.2 Description of all past on-site potential and/or known above and below ground sources of
contamination identified on the property include the following: 1.) There has never been an
underground fuel storage tank for as long as Tony Faria has owned the property. Fuel tanks
that may have been on the property (other than the propane tank illustrated in the
photographs) prior to Faria's ownership are unknown, have not been documented, and are
unlikely. 2.)Nitrate from agricultural crop fertilization and agrichemical residues from crop
production are of an unlikely concern at this time.
Page-4-
