SUMMARY OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS AND MITIGATION
Table 3 summarizes the environmental impacts of the proposed subdivision. The
table presents impacts on vegetation and wildlife. The significance of each impact is
identified, mitigation measures are indicated, and the significance of each impact after
mitigation is provided.
The proposed subdivision is potentially capable of maintaining substantial wildlife
and wetland values in association with residential development. The low housing density
will ensure that many species now occurring on the site will remain. Overall impacts on
wildlife and vegetation are considered less than significant. Impacts on wetlands are
considered significant, but implementation of the recommended mitigation measures will
reduce impacts to less-than-significant levels. Impacts on most special-status wildlife and
plant species will be avoided through mitigation to protect their habitat. These habitats
include elderberry shrubs, riparian woodlands, open water, freshwater marsh, vernal pools,
and oak woodlands. Potential cumulative impacts on Swainson's hawks are considered
significant, but implementation of the recommended mitigation measures will reduce
' impacts to less-than-significant levels.
Measures recommended to minimize impacts on vegetation can be effectively
incorporated into development plans. With careful implementation, these measures will
further ensure that many of the wildlife values of the area are maintained.
—
30
