This property has been an on-going health hazard to the entire community. It is unhealthy, unsightly, unsafe, and a menace to the neighborhood. After much work on behalf of some of the neighbors and the health department, the health department was FINALLY able to get this mess shut down. The very idea of bringing in 90,000 chickens is a slap in the face of those who had to work so hard to get the operation shut down in the first place. The property owner made public promises and assurances as to things he would do years ago, and has not completed one item. He has, in fact, allowed the property to deteriorate even further than it was then. I realize there is another applicant involved, but that does not change the fact that this neighborhood cannot tolerate another chicken ranch(meat or egg) in this area. There are far too many chicken ranches here already. Disposal of the chicken manure is a continuing and ongoing problem. When even one chicken ranch spreads liquid chicken manure in the fields, the entire neighborhood, as well as people just driving through, suffers greatly due to the extremely obnoxious odors emanating therefrom. There are not enough enforcement officers to ensure proper tilling in of the manure within the 24 hours as required by the health department When it comes to chicken manure—24 hours is far too long to allow it to sit on top of the soil before it is required to be tilled into the ground. It is common practice to allow the chicken manure to sit on top of the ground for days, sometimes weeks. This is in violation of county health ordinances, but continues to occur on a regular basis. When the health department did shut this operation down, the manure ponds were not pumped and cleared for years. I don't know if they have ever been cleaned up, as I haven't been past the back of the property lately.
