For a pump out interval of every 3 years, tank volume V =2.8 QBV,x Peaking Factor. The peaking
factor is typically taken to be 1.5 for commercial projects based on a"peak day" since it is assumed
the majority of flow will occur on Sundays.
Septic Tank Sizing for the 2,000 Gallon Tank to Serve the New Worship Center:
V= 1,125 +0.75Q. V=Net Volume of Tank, Q=Sunday Daily Flow.
V= 1,125 +0.75(1,700 MAX Sunday Daily Flow)=2,400 gals. Therefore, a 2,000 gal tank is adequate.
Septic Tank Capacity Based on Potential Pump-out Interval of Three Years:
2.8(pump-out interval factor for 3 yrs.)x 425 gals(Daily Monday-Saturday QAyg)x Peaking Factor(PF=1.5)
= 1,785 gals. The first existing receiving tank is 1,600 gals. Therefore, the pump-out interval for this tank
should be between 2.5 to 3 years. This pump-out interval may also apply to the new 2,000 gal tank, as
discussed in the Conclusions Section.
Detention Time-2,000alg tank:
One new-2,000 gal tank to serve the new Worship Center.
=2,000 gal total tank capacity x 0.70(30%volume lost to sludge/scum accumulation)
1.5 (Peaking factor)x 1,700 gals/day(MAX SLJNDAY FLOW )
=0.6 days. The minimum acceptable detention time is 1.0 day. However, effluent flows from this tank to
the tanks referenced below for additional detention time. Therefore, given the safety factors incorporated
into the calculations, there is sufficient detention time.
Detention Time- 1.600+ 1,600+ 1,200 gal tanks=4,400 total tank capaci
=4,400 gal total tank capacity x 0.70 (30%volume lost to sludge/scum accumulation)
1.5 (Peaking factor)x 425 gals/day(ADF Monday-Saturday)
=4.8 days or 1.2 days if 1,700 gals ADF is used.
B. MOUND SYSTEM SITE PREPARATION
The following calculations are for the new mound system to serve the entire Southwinds Church
facility. General construction and design criteria are also found in the California State Water
Resources Control Board- Guidelines for the Design. Installation and Operations of Mound
Sewage Disposal Systems, and the EPA Design Manual- On Site Wastewater Treatment and
Disposal Systems.
The location of the new mound system is outlined on the Site Plans and is proposed to be directly
north of the existing mound. Prior to the commencement of any and all construction activities,
this area shall be cordoned off to prevent soil compaction by equipment driving over the area, or
used for storage.
At the start of mound construction, the native soil/sand media interface must be properly prepared.
The native soil basal area must be stripped of all vegetation and then ripped with the backhoe
teeth to a depth of 4 inches.
13
Chesney Consulting
