FrDetention
ydraulic Detention Time
1,200 ag 1 septic tank capacity x 0.70 (30%volume lost to sludge/scum accumulation)
2.5 (Peaking Factor)x 150 gals/day ADF
= 2.2 days. The minimum acceptable detention time is 1.0 days. Therefore, a
1,200 gallon septic tank is adequate.
Primary and 100% Replacement Filter Bed Area
The filter bed area is calculated in the procedure described in Section 8.7 of the San Joaquin
County Sewage Standards and EHD Document 42-01-004: Calculation Requirements for Commercial
Septic Systems:
Base Tank Capacity(BTC)= 1,200 gals
Lineal Feet of Leachline (LFLL) = 1,200 BTC + 150 ADF x 0.225 Soil Factor based on clay loam
soil, or a silty clay/clayey silt= 303 LFLL JJ rr
Filter Bed Area=303 x 3.5 = 1,000 square feet. Note.--A factor o 3.5 is used to calculate filter bed Yc
area since the effluent accepting soil is not sand
_(3)_gttdnot clay(4 l ut rather a clay loam-udzich
is a silty clay—clayey silt, and there ore given a factor 3.5. The primary filter bed area is proposed
to be rectangular in area: 10 ft x 100 ft= 1,000 sq. ft, and manifolded in the center so that half the
effluent is distributed 50 feet to the north and 50 feet to the south. Therefore. each Infiltrator
Chamber length will be 50 feet,long._ There will be three chambers on either side of the center
manifold.
The filter bed area may also correspond with the percolation test results. As referenced above, the
application rate correlated with the shallow perc test results of 120 mpi translate to an application
rate of 0.20 gals/ft'/day. Using the ADF of 150 gpd,we find: 150 gpd-0.20 gals/ftZ/day = 750 sq.
ft. filter bed. Therefore, the filter bed size of 1,000 sq. ft. is adequate based on the test results
obtained.
The 100%replacement area is directly south of the primary filter bed area, and is also to consist of
1,000 sq. ft. Equipment may be stored in this area; however, there can be no permanent fixtures, or
underground utilities in this area.
Wastewater Disposal System Parameters and Appurtenances 71
Infiltrator Chambers: 34"x 75"x 12"; Filter Bed= 1,200" (100')-75" = 16 Chambers-i 3 rows=48 Chambers
Zabel or Orenco Filtration from septic tank to filter bed (EHD Requirement)
As-Builts of entire system by installer after installation (EHD Requirement)
Monitoring of soil/effluent interface with monitoring ports within the filter bed area with observation
tubes: 4" PVC Tee at soil/effluent interface with a 4" riser flush with the grass surface and a screw-
type cap.
