September 30,2005
NOA Project Number.E05120B
3.2 Soil Sample Collection Method
Soil samples for the vicinity of the above-ground storage tank and vehicle maintenance areas will be
L• collected directly into clean stainless steel tubes or by scooping with a stainless steel trowel into glass
containers. If a trowel is used,it will be decontaminated by washing with a solution of potable water
and Liquid-Nox solution or equivalent prior to collecting each sample.
r
Soil samples co-located with ground water borings will be obtained using a Macro Core sampler with
a 2-inch barrel;the resulting sample will be 1.5 inches in diameter. The Marco Core sampler
contains a plastic liner that retains a relatively undisturbed soil core from which soil samples are
collected.
4 After collection, the samples will be placed on ice inside an insulated storage chest and transported
promptly under chain-of-custody to the analytical laboratory.
3.3 Soil Sample Laboratory Tests
Soil samples will be transported to a California state certified analytical laboratory where the
following Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) tests will be performed, depending on sample
location and suspected contaminant:
Manure ponds and disposal areas:
Nitrate as nitrogen by EPA 300.0.
Above-ground storage tank and vehicle maintenance areas:
• TPH-g and TEPH by EPA Method 8015 Mod. and BTEX by 8015/802113;
• CAM 17 Metals by EPA 6000/7000.
4.0 GROUND WATER SAMPLING PROCEDURES
4.1 Drilling Details
6.
Vironex,Inc. of San Leandro will provide all necessary equipment and materials for drilling and
collecting the ground water samples. The drilling and soil logging procedures are described next.
4.Z1 DriWagMetbod
The ground water borings will be advanced using a Geoprobe 5400 direct push sampling rig. The
drilling equipment will be operated by Vironex,Inc. The soil cuttings brought to the surface will be
examined and disposed on-site by spreading on the surface around the boring.
4 "44
