LMOUNTAIN HOUSE PROPOSED MACHADO TENTATIVE MAP 4. ENVIRONMENTAL CHECKLIST
4.13 PUBLIC SERVICES
LLaw Enforcement
LThe San Joaquin County Sheriff provides law enforcement services to the Mountain House
Community under contract with the MHCSD. The County Sheriff employs 124 uniformed
L deputies who serve people in the unincorporated areas of San Joaquin County. There is a
sheriff's office at the Mountain House fire station.
The project site is located in Beat Area 8,which includes the unincorporated areas near Tracy
bounded by the Alameda County line to the west, the Stanislaus county line to the south and
east, and the Old River to the north. These same officers act as deputy coroners by
responding to unattended deaths in San Joaquin County(EDAW, 2005b).
V
Public Schools
L Lammersville Elementary School District
The project site is located in the service area of the Lammersville Elementary School District
(LESD), which serves kindergarten through 8th grade(K-8) students from the
L unincorporated area of the County to the north and south of Interstate 205 (I-205). LESD
currently operates two public elementary schools, Lammersville and Wicklund. Wicklund
Elementary School, located along Legacy Drive in Neighborhood F of the Mountain House
LCommunity, was designed with a capacity for 875 students. Enrollment in August 2006 was
659 students (Lebo, 2006).
LLESD plans to construct and operate two new K-8 schools in the Mountain House
Community area in Neighborhoods E and G of the Specific Plan I project area. Construction
of the Bethany Elementary School in Neighborhood E began in August 2006, and it will open
in August 2007 (Lebo, 2006). These two schools would serve students in the Specific Plan
III area(where the proposed project is located) until the schools planned to specifically serve
the Specific Plan III area are constructed(EDAW, 2005b).
6.
Tracy Unified School District
The Mountain House Community is located in the service area of the Tracy Unified School
District(TUSD),which provides public high school services. TUSD currently serves
approximately 5,400 high school students at two comprehensive high schools and one
continuation high school. The closest comprehensive high school to the project site is West
L High School, located at 1775 West Lowell Avenue in Tracy, approximately six miles from
Mountain House Community.
L In August 2006, 123 students from the Mountain House Community were enrolled in TUSD
high schools. Almost all Mountain House Community high school students currently attend
West High School (Ohm, 2006). This school was originally designed for a capacity of 2,400
L students, but current attendance is approximately 2,900 students. West High School utilizes
rented portable classrooms to provide the additional classroom space. The second
comprehensive high school operated by TUSD is Tracy High School, which has a capacity
L for 1,800 students. Tracy High School currently accommodates 2,500 students and also uses
rented portable classrooms for additional classroom space.
4-65
L
