L KL EINFELDER
6 SITE RECONNAISSANCE
r
6.1. METHODOLOGY AND LIMITING CONDITIONS
r
Mr. Philip Marquez, Kleinfelder Staff Biologist, conducted a site reconnaissance on October 3,
2002 to assess and photograph present site conditions. The approximate site boundaries are
shown on Plate 2 and 3, "Site Map," and color photographs of the site are presented on Plates 3-7
(Appendix A). The site conditions discussed below are limited to readily apparent
environmental conditions observed.
L
6.2. GENERAL SITE SETTING
6.
The site is approximately 230 acres and is currently used for row crop agriculture and a produce
stand. The western portion of the site is vacant disced field. Several 100 and 500 - gallon plastic
containers of liquid fertilizer attached to trailers were observed at various locations throughout
the site.
L The southeastern comer of the site appears mostly as harvested row crop. A natural gas pipeline
and an electrical box are located along the southern and eastern edge of the site (Appendix A,
Photographs 18-19). Miscellaneous debris is also located along the southern edge of the site. An
r irrigation canal begins in the southeastern corner and trends in a northwest direction through the
central portion of the site and divides the site into northern and southern portions (Appendix A,
L Photographs 14-15). North of the irrigation canal, in the southeastern portion of the site, is a
fenced-in and abandoned fishing pond area. Three dry ponds, a shed and a trailer appear to make
up the abandoned fishing pond area (Appendix A, Photographs 2-5). A fenced in-area is located
north of the shed and contains empty 5-gallon buckets and miscellaneous debris (Appendix A
r Photograph 6). A pole-mounted transformer is located along the eastern edge of the site, east of
the abandoned fishing pond area. A gravel parking area is located north of the abandoned
fishing pond area (Appendix A, Photograph 1). Light staining was observed throughout the
I` parking area. Several PVC pipes connected to a below-grade PVC pipe are located along the
fence line of the abandoned fishing pond (Appendix A, Photographs 7-8).
A produce stand is located west of the gravel parking area. The produce stand contains
numerous counters and several refrigerated cases used to hold the produce (Appendix A,
` Photograph 11). The cooling units and compressors for the refrigerated cases were observed
along the outside southern wall of the produce stand. No staining was observed on or around the
cooling units or compressors. A back room to the produce stand contains a small office, several
shelves for storage, and a rafter area also used for storage (Appendix A, Photograph 24).
Kleinfelder was unable to access the small office. Observing through a small window revealed a
desk and some shelving. Several small containers of oil were observed in the rafter area. A
residential trailer and several mobile homes were observed south of the produce stand and
northeast of the irrigation canal (Appendix A, Photographs 9 and 10). Numerous wooden crates,
pallets and empty 5-gallon buckets are scattered throughout the area.
