KLEINFELDER
r
TPH-D was detected at concentrations of 1.7 to 2.3 mg/kg from the west sidewall and bottom
r sample B2, respectively. Total lead was detected in each of the soil samples at concentrations
ranging from 3.5 to 6.7 mg/kg. None of the other requested constituents were detected at or
_ above laboratory reporting limits.
Because the proximity of bottom sample B2 collected at approximately 14'/2 feet bgs to the
reported depth to groundwater of 20 feet bgs (per resident farmer Mr. Charlie Spatafore), one
additional soil sample was collected from a deeper bottom sample (AST excavation) during
sampling of the excavated and stockpiled material.
Additional Excavation and Stockpile Sampling (July 2, 2003)
r. A total of nine soil samples were collected on July 2, 2003. A single discrete excavation bottom
sample (B3) was collected at a depth of about 16 feet bgs in the AST area. Eight soil samples
were collected from stockpiled soil removed from the AST excavation. The eight soil samples
were composited by the analytical laboratory into two 4-point composite samples. The
composite subset samples were collected from approximately 225 cubic yards of soil (See Plate
3). The discrete stockpile sampling locations were chosen from approximately equal volumes of
the stockpiles. The soil samples were collected at depths ranging from one to four feet beneath
the surface or sides of the stockpile. The samples were collected by pushing a 2-inch diameter
by 6-inch long stainless steel tube into the soil or from a stainless steel sampler attached to a
slide hammer. Sampling equipment was decontaminated as described in the Agricultural Soil
Sampling section.
r The discrete soil sample collected in the bottom of the excavation was obtained from the bit of a
stainless steel hand auger advanced beneath the bottom of the excavation. The two stockpile
composite samples and the discrete excavation bottom samples were analyzed for the following:
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons referenced as Diesel [TPH-D] by EPA
` Method 8015M/3015.
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons referenced Gasoline by SW8015B/DHS
r
LUFT Manual.
• Total lead by EPA Methods.
The bottom excavation soil sample B3 was reported by the laboratory as having a concentration
of TPH-D at 5.1 mg/kg and a total lead concentration of 5.4 mg/kg. TPH-G was not detected in
r this soil samples at or above laboratory reporting limits. No soil discoloration or odor was noted
from this soil sample.
TPH-D, TPH-G and total lead was detected from the two composite samples collected from the
excavated soil. TPH-D was detected at concentrations ranging from 1900 to 2700 mg/kg and
ion
21073/ST03R1067 July 28,2003
'
0 2003 Kleinfelder,Inc. Page 5 of 8
