KLEINFELDER
r
Total petroleum hydrocarbons as referenced to diesel (TPH-D) were detected in two soil samples
` at concentrations ranging from 3,300 milligrams/kilogram (mg/kg) to 6,200 mg/kg. Total
petroleum hydrocarbons as referenced to gasoline (TPH-G) was detected at concentrations
r ranging from 480 to 900 mg/kg. Total xylenes was also detected in one of the samples at 320
micrograms/kilogram (Og/kg). Total lead was detected at concentrations ranging from 4 to 5
mg/kg.
Based on the reported sampling results soils were excavated beneath the AST's followed by
confirmation excavation soil sampling.
Excavation Confirmation Soil Sampling in AST Area (June 18, 2003)
On June 18, 2003 Marcor Remediation of San Leandro, California was present at the site with a
backhoe to excavate diesel/gasoline impacted soil at the former AST area under the oversight of
Mr. Fran Bean, Kleinfelder staff geologist. The excavation was rectangular measuring
r approximately 22 feet x 15 feet x 14 feet deep located over the reported location of the former
three AST's. Discolored and odiferous soil was noted from surface to approximately 12 feet bgs.
Excavated soil was transported to the western central portion of the site just south of a irrigation
canal. The stockpiled soil was placed onto and covered by visqueen. Approximately 225 cubic
yards of soil was removed.
s
A total of six confirmation samples were collected within the excavation, four sidewall samples
and two excavation bottom samples (Plate 3). The sidewall samples were collected in opposing
sides of the excavation at depths ranging from nine to eleven feet bgs where odiferous and
discolored soil was noted during excavation activities. Both bottom samples (Bl and B2) were
collected at depths of approximately 14%2 bgs. Groundwater was not noted during excavation
activities. Six of the soil samples including the four sidewall samples and two bottom samples
were collected from the bucket of the excavator. These six soil samples were taken in proximity
to the teeth of the bucket to ensure the most representative sample using this technique. The soil
` samples were collected by pushing a 2-inch diameter by 6-inch long stainless steel tubes into the
soil.
Each of the six confirmation soil samples was submitted for the following analyses:
r
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons referenced as Diesel [TPH-D] by EPA
Method 8015M/3015.
a Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons referenced Gasoline and benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX)by EPA Method 8260.
., • Total lead by EPA Methods.
21073/ST03RI067 July 28,2003
` ©2003 Kleinfelder,Inc.
