Soil Suitability Study MS-92-67
raising Arabian horses , the remainder of the present 51 . 73 acres
parcel is devoted to the agricultural use of growing sugar beets .
F
Soil Profile Test :
i-
Excavation to a depth of ten ( 10) feet below the ground
surface was performed for the Soil Profile investigation on Parcel
No . 2 , at the location shown on the attached "Parcel Map" . Two (2)
basic soil layers were found in excavating to the 10-foot depth .
From the ground surface to a depth of seven (7) feet , the soil in
some reference books is identified as San Joaquin Loam . Visual
inspection gives the appearance of a gray clay. Cracks exist in the
ground indicating expansion with exposure to moisture and
contraction with drying . From seven (7 ) to ten ( 10) feet below the
ground surface , the soil was noted to be a whitish gray hardpan
which was extremely difficult to excavate with hand operated tools .
No water was encountered in excavating to the 10-foot depth . The
{ San Joaquin County Flood Control And Water Conservation Map
entitled "Lines Of Equal Depth To Water Wells" , dated Fall 1990 ,
shows the water to be in excess of 110 feet below the ground
surface .
Percolation Tests :
Three (3) percolation test holes , two (2) on Parcel No . 2 ,
E identified as test holes P1 and P2 and one
( 1 ) on Parcel No . 1 ,
identified as test hole P3 were excavated to about a 3-foot depth . }
The location of the three test holes are shown on the attached
"Parcel Map" .
E All percolation tests conducted were performed in accordance t
with the percolation test procedures outlined in the "Manual Of
Septic Tank Practice" published by the Department Of Health
Education And Welfare and the requirements of the San Joaquin
Count Public Health Service Environmental ronmental Health Division .
i
Between May 5 , 1992 and May 7 , 1992 , three percolation tests
were performed on the subject property under my direction in
E: conformance with the San Joaquin County Public Health Service ,
Environmental Health Division regulations and the San Joaquin I
County Ordinance Code Standards . 4
Percolation Test Hole Nos . Pl , P2 and P3 resulted in the
percolation rates and determinations shown on the attached '
"Percolation Data Sheets" ., and are tabulated as follows : 4
G
Paul and Jacqueline Polk 3
