December 16,2003
Job Number: LG03-304
Page 9
of hardness. The high degree of cementation of the soil causes the typical auger drilling(non-
mud rotary) to be difficult, slow and expensive. The cementation of the soil also causes the
observed the permeability to be relative low. The hardpan zone does provide an additional
means of protection between the ground surface and ground water.
~ Auger refusal of the deep percolation test had occurred at the depths of 22.5 feet for P-1, 7.7 for
P-2, and 7.2 for P-3. It is our opinion that the upper shallow soil zone between the ground
` surface to five feet in depth, will have the most percolation potential. The deeper soil zone
below five feet appears to be highly cemented or clayey-- unfavorable conditions for effluent
disposal through seepage pits.
6.0 PERCOLATION TEST INFORMATION
6.1 Percolation Test Boring Locations
•. Six percolation tests were performed on November 21, 2003, two on each of the proposed lots.
One shallow and one deep boring were advanced at each sampling location, as indicated in Plate
1.
6.2 Boring Preparation and Specifications
Parcel 1,was evaluated with both a shallow and a deep percolation test boring advanced to 3 feet
and to 22.5 feet respectfully. Parcel 2,was evaluated with both a shallow and a deep percolation
test boring advanced to 3 feet and to 7.7 feet respectfully. Parcel 3, was evaluated with both a
shallow and a deep percolation test boring advanced to 3.1 feet and to 7.2 feet respectfully. All
six borings were drilled using a Mobile B-53 auger rig on November 6 and November 19, 2003.
r.
No ground water was encountered during the drilling of the borings.
A 2-inch diameter PVC pipe with perforations on the bottom was used to measure the drop of
water in the percolation test boring. Approximately 2 inches of"pea gravel'were placed in the
bottom of the boring, then the PVC pipe was installed on top of the gravel. Several feet of"pea
gravel'were backfilled in the annular space.
6.3 Presaturation of Borings
Presaturation of the percolation test holes occurred on November 20, 2003. The depth of water
used to presoak was 12 inches above the bottom of the borings. Borings P-1 deep and P-2 deep
were found to be in a saturated condition during the presoak. The saturation had probably
pFR3
Z
1
rSpC
r
