L
December 16,2003
Job Number:LG03-304
Page 10
occurred from rain infiltration collecting on the hard pan. The rain storm had occurred several
days prior to the percolation test.
6.4 Percolation Test Procedure and Results
L Three 4-hour percolation tests were conducted on November 21, 2003 in accordance with the
requirements of San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division. The last half hour of all the
tests were observed by Mr. Mike Huggins, Supervising Environmental Health Specialist, of that
office.
` Measurement of the water level during the percolation test was from a fixed reference point on
the PVC casing using an electric well sounder with an depth accuracy of 1/100th foot. All values
on the field data sheet(appendix) are in decimal feet. After water drop was observed, the holes
were checked for refill. The refill level is 6 inches of water above the bottom level of the
percolation test hole. The readings were taken approximately every 30-minutes for the 4 hour
duration test.
According the EHD, a satisfactory percolation rate for a deep (greater than 3.5-foot deep) test is
30 min/in or less, and a satisfactory rate for a shallow (3-3.5 foot deep) test is 60 min/in or less.
Both the shallow and deep percolation tests performed on Parcels 1 and 3 failed to meet the
minimum percolation test requirements. The shallow test for Parcel 2 (shallow) achieved a
satisfactory percolation rate of 15.6 min/in. A summary of the percolation tests is presented in
Table 4.
Table 4.
Summary of Percolation Tests.
Test No., Percolation Percolation Rate Test Comment
Date Tested Test Depth(ft) (minutes/inch) Duration
P-1 shallow, 11-21-03 3.0 62.5 4 hr Failed requirements.
(Parcel 1)
P-1 deep, 11-21-03 22.55 — 4 hr No movement,failed
r (Parcel 1) requirements.
P-2 shallow, 11-21-03 3.0 15.6 4 hr Passed requirements.
(Parcel 2)
P-2 deep, 11-21-03 7.7 — 4 hr No movement, failed
(Parcel 2) requirements.
"0 "0"
s
z W
o
P
,SSpG♦
