L <br /> LAcceleradon / Deceleration Lane Needs <br /> During peak times, the intersection will experience congestion such that adequate gaps for <br /> trucks entering the State Route 33 vehicle stream will become infrequent. These infrequent <br /> gaps will result in poorer level of service and potentially will exacerbate vehicle queuing <br /> across the railroad tracks. Additionally, during fog events, taming onto and off of State <br /> Route 33 will become more difficult and create more of a safety concern due to the decrease <br /> in sight distance during these times. <br /> LIt is recommended that the existing roadway be widened to provide acceleration and <br /> deceleration lanes for both trucks turning right onto southbound Welty and northbound <br /> Ltrucks turning left onto State Route 33. <br /> SUMMARY <br /> LThe project should construct the following improvements to the State Route 33 / Welty <br /> intersection: <br /> • Construct 4-foot shoulders beyond the outermost truck wheel tracks as shown in <br /> i <br /> Figure 2. <br /> L • Reconfigure intersection striping to prevent turning trucks from crossing over <br /> double yellow stripes. <br /> • Install signage to warn trucks about blocking the railroad tracks. Consult with Union <br /> Pacific regarding any additional measures needed. <br /> • Reconfigure traffic stripes and trim or remove trees and vegetation to eliminate <br /> horizontal sight distance constraints. <br /> L • Construct acceleration and deceleration lanes at the intersection for trucks turning <br /> right onto southbound Welty and northbound trucks turning left onto State Route <br /> 33. <br /> Thank you for the opportunity to provide this analysis.
