k any of the alternatives. Pacific Legacy's pedestrian survey of three alternatives did not
f
result in the discovery of any archaeological sites.
An unrecorded, possibly historic farmhouse complex is located in the southwest corner
of the quarry location which includes all alternatives. Documentation and evaluation
of the structure which may be greater than 50 years of age may be required if it is
' determined that quarrying operations may impact the homestead. In the event that the
home is determined to be 50 years or older, its "significance" per CEQA or the
eligibility for the California Register of Historic Places will have to be completed prior
to development of this area in order to determine the project effects on the significant
resources (CEQA Guidelines, Appendices G and K) if they cannot be avoided. If the
property is not deemed "significant' or eligible for the California register of Historic
Places, it need not be considered further in the planning process.
No further archaeological work should be necessary unless project plans change to
include unsurveyed areas. If buried cultural deposits are encountered during
construction, work in the area must be halted until a qualified archaeologist can
evaluate the nature and significance of the find.
Should you need further information I can be reached a# 510 5
Y ( ) 524-3991.
Sincerely,
John Holson
I
cc: File 97-P227
Attachments: Figure 1 and 2, Appendix 1.
a
C.\ARCHAEOL\KOSTER\SRVYREPR.WPD DRAFrKoster RoadArchaeolo
March 13,1997 5 a gical5urvey
,f
