Surface&Subsurface Contamination Report Page 9
700 W.Linne Rd-,Tracy
Project No. 662.1
February 11,2013
2.0 SITE DESCRIPTION
2.1 Property Local' and Description
The Property consists cd 7contiguous agricultural parcels that have a total area of about 724
acres. The parcels are zoned AG-40. The Property occupies portions of Sections 9 and 10 of
T3S, R6E, MDB&M. It is situated on the south side of Linne Road between Koster and
Kasson Roads. The Property is served by two septic sewage systems and a domestic water
well situated near the farm building complex on parcel 38. The Banta Carbona Irrigation
provides irrigation water. Stormwater is drained internally. The area is shown on the United
States Geological Survey topographic map, Vernalis California Quadrangle, California, 7.5-
minute series.
2.2 Geologic and Hydrologic Conditions
Soils& Geology
The Central valley is notable for thick sedimentary deposits which range in age from recent
to Eocene and older and which may extend to depths of more than 20,000 feet. These
sediments are derived from the Sierra range to the east and the Coast Ranges to the west.
The shallow sediments are known as the Tulare Formation. A widespread clay deposit, the
Corcoran Clay (or E-clay), divides the upper and lower members of the Tulare Formation.
The Tulare sediments lying above the Corcoran Clay are entirely Pleistocene in age. The
Corcoran Clay is about 60 feet thick in the Vernalis-New Jerusalem area and it serves as an
effective aquitard. It lies approximately 150 to 200 feet below the ground surface. It is
believed that most major irrigation and water supply wells are completed below the Corcoran
Clay zone.
The USDA Soils Conservation Service Soil Survey of San Joaquin County, California,
October 1992 soil survey report classifies soil in San Joaquin County. The Survey generally
classifies the soils in this area of as part of the Columbia-Temple Association; deep,
imperfectly drained soils of the Capay association; moderately well drained fine textured
soils of the San Joaquin River flood plain. The specific on-site soil is almost all a type
known as Capay clay, wet, 0-2% slopes. This is deep, moderately well drained brownish
clay soil overlying a silty clay loam. It is relatively impermeable.
Hydrology
Evaluation of the site's geologic and hydrologic conditions included a review of the surface
soils and topography, a review of groundwater monitoring reports for nearby known
contamination sites, a review of the USGS Topographic Map, Vernalis Quadrangle and the
map Lines of Eaual Depth in Water Wells, which is attached to Geology of Fresh
Groundwater Basin Central Valley California USGS Professional Paper 1401-C, 1986.
Based on this map the surface of groundwater is estimated to lie less about 10 feet below
2937 Veneman Ave.,#B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
