k" KLEINFELDER
7 INTERVIEWS
` Kleinfelder attempted to contact key site managers to obtain current and historical
environmental information concerning the subject site. Key site managers may include
current or past owners of the site, managers, or current occupants on site. Interviews
were limited, to a maximum of two selected key site managers. Mr. Bill Dotinga (dairy
farmer) and Larry Woltjer (orchard farmer), were interviewed during this assessment,
summarized in Section 7.1.
Local government officials were interviewed to obtain further information about
environmental enforcement actions pending or ongoing at the site and adjacent
facilities, or relevant permits (e.g. building, air quality, well abandonment, etc.) for the
site and adjacent facilities.
Copies of telephone conversation records included in Appendix D and summaries of
the discussions are included in Chapter 4 of this report. The following sections highlight
environmental conditions revealed during the interviews.
7.1. INTERVIEW WITH OWNER/MANAGER
Bill Dotinga (dairy farmer) was interview onsite during the site reconnaissance and on
May 18, 2006. According to Mr. Dotinga, he has farmed the property since 1989. Prior
to 1989 the property was a beef cattle ranch. According to Mr. Dotinga, a dairy was
associated with the barn and residential area in the1940's. The present dairy uses the
same corrals and buildings as the beef cattle ranch. The dairy contains over three-
thousand cows. Adjacent to the milk barn are AST's. The large tank is a water tank and
the AST's in cradles are diesel fuel tanks. An AST containing a disinfectant for the cows
udders is located to the west, adjacent to the milk barn. Located in the southern portion
of the dairy area are two AST's. Two AST's are located in the southern portion of the
dairy area. According to Mr. Dotinga the tanks are a former molasses tank and a way
tank (a corn liquid product). According to the Mr. Dotinga the discolored water located
adjacent to the barn area in the center of the site is from the cattle feed.
The ponds located onsite area approximately 30 feet dee The southern and was built
+. P PP Y P• P
in 1989 and the northern two ponds are approximately 2 to 3 years old. The water in the
ponds is used onsite. Water from the ponds is used to flush the lanes in the dairy area.
4 The water from the ponds is also used to fertilize and irrigate the fields. The fields
according to Mr. Dotinga are sprayed with the pond water between crops in the spring
and the fall. Manure is also used on the fields as fertilizer. During the summer creek
water is mixed with the pond water and is used to irrigate the fields.
Mr. Dotinga did not have any knowledge of the two fuel UST's removed from the site in
6. 1990, as noted by SJC/EHD. According to Mr. Dotinga, a former farmer brought in the
large AST located in the barn/residential area in the center of the site.
